QUALITY, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT & EDUCATION COMMITTEE
1. Mission & Objectives
To provide strategic direction and orientation on all matters relating to the improvement of quality, safety, training & education and consideration of environmental issues for users & workers on lifts, escalators and passenger conveyors, throughout the life cycle of the equipment, from design to removal.
To give guidelines, influence decision-making and facilitate interpretation and implementation on areas of improvement in quality, safety, education and environmental consideration of components, new equipment, preventive maintenance, repair and upgrading.
To facilitate the introduction and implementation of the Maintenance Norm (EN 13015) in support of the Lift Directive (95/16EC) and to extend this Norm to all types of equipment.
To pursue the adoption of a harmonized standard to cover the 10 items listed in the annex to the recommendation 95/16EC. To establish a technical interpretation of annex 1 of Directive 95/63EC with particular consideration to article 4a, "the inspection of work equipment" (SNEL development).
To review the application of the "Escalators: safety for users" guide (produced by EEA) and decide on the future strategy to be adopted.
To assess the implications for quality and safety of the decision under the Lift Directive on the borderline between the Lift Directive 95/16EC and the Machine Directive 98/37EC and give due consideration on the way.
To promote training & education, particularly for quality and safety issues in the lift industry.
